Overview
In 2013, City Plan Heritage in collaboration with City Plan Strategy & Development was appointed by Health Infrastructure NSW for Heritage Consultancy Services to assist the three separate stages of Development Application associated with the redevelopment of Lismore Base Hospital.
The proposed works were declared as State Significant Development (SSD), and contained a number of key provisions that were required to be addressed in relation to heritage matters. In order to address these requirements, as well as considering the site’s context being in the vicinity of a heritage item, City Plan Heritage undertook a Heritage Impact Statement, incorporating the required Aboriginal cultural heritage assessment as well as the Historical Baseline Heritage Assessments for the built elements of the site that are proposed for demolition or to be extensively modified.
Development
The redevelopment comprises a new Emergency Department, improved facilities for renal services, shell space for future theatres, a plant area, new multi-level car parking and refurbishment works of the existing hospital buildings.
Our Involvement
City Plan Heritage was able to advise Health Infrastructure NSW that there was no potential for sites or places of Aboriginal cultural heritage significance or archaeological deposits (both Aboriginal & European), to be located with the Lismore Base Hospital Site or the adjacent car park site. We have also provided guidelines for the management of the extent early fabric as park of the new design. The NSW State Government approved the Development Application and works were expected to be completed in 2016.
