Our team is expanding, and an opportunity is available for a suitably qualified and motivated Senior Heritage Consultant to join our team, providing high level cultural heritage consulting services from our Sydney office. This opportunity will appeal to heritage consultant who is wishing to further their experience, broaden their skills and career in a highly regarded consultancy involved in a variety of projects across NSW and Australia.

The Position

We are looking for a Senior Heritage Consultant to join our Sydney Heritage team as part of a highly regarded heritage management consultancy. You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of projects, create lasting relationships with key clients, and develop your career with a hand on the helm.

The role will be supported by experienced leaders in the heritage sector, dedicated to recognising developing talent and supporting staff through mentorship. Some of the key projects the heritage team have collaborated on recently include the awarding winning Newcastle East End Precinct (ongoing), heritage advisory services to TfNSW’s Transport Asset Revitalisation Program, heritage assessments for various Defence sites in NSW, major Department of Education Projects across NSW and Victoria, and heritage advisory services to many local government areas.

Your Role:

  • Provide support in assisting other staff with assessments and research
  • Have the ability to work autonomously on mid-level projects – and the courage to ask for support if you need it.
  • Work across a wide range of applications with an understanding of how to develop proposals, assistant tenders & submissions for potential projects
  • Take responsibility for project tasks to meet specifications, deadlines, and budgets
  • Applicants are expected to have knowledge of and care for First Nation culture and issues impacting First Nations people. Whose country are you on today?

About You: 

This position would suit someone who has experience in a similar role with a combination of the following competencies:

  • An understanding of heritage principles and the ability to apply them
  • Understanding of appropriate statutory heritage and planning legislation affecting heritage, particularly the Heritage Act(s).
  • Excellent client, project and time management skills
  • The courage to present innovative solutions to situations and effectively explore alternative positions dedication to best practice
  • Ability to undertake heritage research utilising multiple sources and methodologies; and present a preliminary assessment of findings
  • Demonstrated ability in research, problem solving and lateral interpretation skills, report writing and communication skills
  • Experience writing Heritage Impact Statements, Heritage Assessments and contributing to Conservation Management Plans
  • Bonus points for working knowledge of GIS, experience conducting remote survey and professional report writing.

Other non-essential but relevant skills and qualifications applicable to the role include;

  • Tertiary qualifications in conservation, museum studies, archaeology, history, anthropology, or broader heritage studies. We are developing a diverse team so tell us what you bring to the table.

  • C-Class driver’s license
  • 4WD qualification
