Our planning team had the pleasure of attending the Property Council NSW May Business Lunch, “A Plan for Planning?”, hosted by the Hon. Rob Stokes MP, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces. It was great to see Dr Stokes return to the stage and enthusiastically declare that he is back and looking forward to creating compelling reasons to build our cities and encourage growth in a liveable, sustainable and productive way.
He spoke of the challenges of building our cities in a way that produces more than simply liveable communities (which should really be the “baseline” rather than the “benchmark”), but communities that are sustainable and inclusive and responsive to the relevant local strategic context. A robust strategic planning process, inclusive of meaningful community and stakeholder engagement, with the next key step being the release of key local strategic planning statements, is the first step to achieving true sustainable growth across NSW.
